Clean Truck Check (HD I/M test)

California’s Clean Truck Inspection and Maintenance (I/M) Testing program is part of the state’s broader efforts to reduce air pollution and improve air quality. The program focuses on heavy-duty diesel trucks and aims to ensure that these vehicles meet stringent emissions standards.
Objective

To reduce harmful emissions from diesel trucks, which contribute significantly to air pollution and health problems.

The program targets heavy-duty trucks, which include those that are over a certain weight threshold (often 14,000 lbs or more), as they are major contributors to emissions.

Vehicles undergo periodic emissions testing to verify they meet California’s standards for pollutants such as nitrogen oxides (NOx) and particulate matter (PM). This includes both on-road inspections and stationary testing at designated facilities.

Truck owners are required to maintain their vehicles in a way that ensures optimal performance in terms of emissions. This may involve regular repairs, replacement of old parts, or updates to newer technologies to lower emissions.

California has some of the strictest emissions regulations in the U.S. Under the California Air Resources Board (CARB), vehicles that fail the inspection may be subject to fines or be required to undergo repairs to meet standards.

The program may use both visual inspections and more advanced technologies like remote sensing to measure pollutants during road tests. Trucks may also be subject to in-shop testing where the exhaust systems are analyzed.

Your Commitment to a Cleaner Future: By participating in Clean Truck I/M Testing, you’re not only keeping your fleet in good standing, but also contributing to a healthier environment for everyone.
